EDINBURGH FRINGE PRODUCTION ASSISTANT 2024

Berk's Nest

Get ready to dive into the Edinburgh Fringe this August with Berk’s Nest! We're on the lookout for a passionate Production Assistant to help the producing team with our fantastic lineup of shows for 2024. As a Production Assistant, you'll be part of the producing team, helping to deliver a hugely exciting and diverse range of Edinburgh Fringe shows from the likes of Sophie Duker, Catherine Cohen, Celya AB, Paul Williams, Emma Sid and Kiell Smith-Bynoe. This is a role designed for those who live in or are from Edinburgh or the surrounding area, and as such applicants should live within easy commuting distance of Edinburgh. This role is a perfect introduction to the comedy industry and a chance to immerse yourself in the unique and exhilarating experience of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Our Production Assistant is responsible for supporting the company's producers and ensuring that all our Fringe shows go to plan. You'll be a friendly face on the team, and will happily grab a coffee for an act or jump on a bus to Ikea or Homebase if someones set or prop has fallen apart. You'll be quick thinking and a problem solver. The role is perfect for anyone looking to gain practical and hands on experience in comedy production and the arts scene. You might already have experience in show tech, marketing arts events, or producing your own student, amateur, or semi-professional shows - but no experience is necessary for this role! You only need to love comedy and the wider arts, be happy to get stuck in, and want to spend the summer at the world’s biggest arts festival! No experience of the Fringe is necessary but is preferable (as a punter or perhaps volunteering at a venue or working as a flyerer). As a role aimed at those who live in or are from Edinburgh or the surrounding area, local knowledge of the city is desirable. As our Production Assistant you will: Provide on the ground support to the producing team, being another pair of hands when problems need solving to short deadlines. Give hands on support to all productions, attending shows where necessary and helping acts with turnarounds before/after shows when needed. Attend technical rehearsals, providing general production support - making sure that everything that needs to happen happens as smoothly as possible! Act as a secondary point of contact for any act, venue, press or agent enquiries, particularly on days where other members of the team are off. Provide physical support to any set building and painting. Helping to transport items across the city, and help unload and load the company van at the beginning and end of the festival. Provide assistance to the producer responsible for the complimentary ticket processing system. Help source key production and office supplies, as well as collecting daily print updates. Be responsible for keeping the company office tidy and organised throughout the festival. ABOUT YOU Essential: Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Genuine enthusiasm for and interest in comedy (prior knowledge of our acts is helpful but not necessary, you will be briefed on all shows on our roster and our aim is to get you to see as many of our shows as possible). Excellent time management & prioritisation skills, knowing how to juggle multiple projects simultaneously. A cool head - you can remain calm under pressure, and can be a flexible problem solver in a fast-paced festival environment. Willingness to collaborate with other team members, share ideas, and contribute to a positive team atmosphere. Ability to embrace the dynamic and fast-paced nature of the Edinburgh Fringe, adapting your approach as needed to meet changing circumstances and maximise impact. Must be at least 18 years old and eligible to work in the UK. Must live within easy commuting distance from Edinburgh. Desirable: Some form of practical production experience, this does not need to be a professional credit. Previous experience of the Edinburgh Fringe. Good knowledge of the city of Edinburgh. Clean driving licence (own vehicle not required!) Hours: Working days: Sun 28th July - Mon 26th August Days off currently scheduled as: 3rd, 8th, 14th, 18th and 22nd Aug (these are open to discussion at interview stage) Regular working hours to be discussed at interview Remuneration and Benefits: £2,500 total buyout fee. Free tickets to all Berk’s Nest shows. Passes to Pleasance, Assembly and Monkey Barrel, allowing you to get into shows for free that aren’t sold out, as well as bar discounts and members bar access. Please note that travel expenses and accommodation are not provided. Ready to join the team? To apply go to www.berksnest.com/jobs If you need more information about the role, assistance with the application process, or generally have any questions please reach out to james@berksnest.com. Given that the festival takes place in Edinburgh we’re keen to hear from those local to the area to open up opportunities to those based in the Edinburgh region and Scotland more broadly. We particularly welcome applications from individuals with lived experience of disability, those who are trans or non-binary, and people who are Black, from the African Diaspora, from the South, East and South East Asian Diaspora, who are ethnically diverse, and who experience racism as these voices are currently underrepresented in the company.
